• On Low Cut Shirts and Breastfeeding

Posted on August 23rd, 2010 TorchOfFate No comments

Even if you don’t have kids, you can probably imagine this scenario. You make cookies and the kid is all like, “I want some” and you are all like, “No it will ruin your dinner” so you put the plate of cookies on the counter out of the kids reach. The kid is not stupid and won’t take your shit. So tippy toes are stood up on and even if the kid can only get one finger on that plate of cookies, it’s coming down. Now imagine this scenario. You have a baby. Not so young that it is at your complete mercy, it can sit in the front of those shopping carts without falling through, able to manipulate things with its hands. But not old enough that breastfeeding it would be deemed creepy. So what happens when you wear a low cut shirt keeping the “cookies” just out of reach of baby who knows that those boobs are its source of tastiness? It will pull that shirt down. The moral of the story, if you breastfeed, keep those cookies locked up tighter or else everyone in the toys department will see your boobs. True Story.

  • On Alternate Realities

I was driving home from school today thinking about how crappy yesterday was and how I hope today is better and it got me thinking about how the Barrys of alternate realities have been doing lately. And then I realized one thing. It is possible that there are an infinite number of alternate realities where I am already dead. Now yesterday doesn’t look so bad. :)

  • On Addiction

I don’t smoke, drink or do drugs, but I do know a thing or two about addictions. I don’t see how people can say marijuana is not addictive unless they are lying to themselves or an idiot. There may not be a chemical dependency associated with it, but if there is something out there that you enjoy doing so much that in the process of getting and using it, you are negatively affecting you professional and social life, then you are addicted. I’m sorry but that’s the way it works.

  • Lesbians Vs The Penis

Posted on May 23rd, 2010 TorchOfFate No comments

I don’t really know how I want to start this one, but it’s about lesbians. Not all lesbians, but I can’t really say which ones it’s about till the end. And it’s based on an observation I have noticed in a few of these particular lesbians. These women give up men because they hate how men are pigs and use women for sex and blah blah blah… you know the routine. But what I have seen is that some, not all, of these women are just as bad to their girlfriends then men are. I like to compare it to that book, Animal Farm by George Orwell. The pigs get rid of the humans because they don’t like how their fellow animals are treated. And then by the end of the book they become humans. These lesbians start looking like a man, acting like a man, and I’m just waiting for the day where they just pop out a penis.

  • On Facebook “Friends”

Posted on March 18th, 2010 TorchOfFate No comments

I work at a retail store in a small town. Pretty much everyone who doesn’t leave the town works there and I will tell you there is more drama there then in high school. Everyone is stabbing everyone else in the back and lying to their face. And yet, they are all still friends on Facebook. Just because they work together! I don’t know, maybe I have high standards for who sees my rants on Facebook, but I won’t add anyone I wouldn’t hang out with. You got people with 200+ friends, and I’m sure they hate half of them! Is that number next to the friend count really that important that you would add people who have nothing nice to say about you behind your back? Not for me. I’m sorry but I have standards for who I consider a friend.

  • On Pre-Owned Games

I was talking to friend and ex-GameStop employee the other day about the knowledge of the GameStop staff and I was informed that sometimes it was allowable for the employees to take home products for a few days to test out and learn about so they would be better able to recommend products to their customers. In theory, that’s a good idea, but it got me thinking. Am I buying something that is labeled as new but has in fact been used by the employees? I know that they open a copy of the game to use the case as a display, and I have purchased the display game due to them not having any sealed copies (at full price I might add) and it was covered with fingerprints. More than there should have been for just moving the disk from the case to protective sleeve they used to store the disk behind the counter. Now, as a person who likes to sell stuff online, I know for a fact that just removing the plastic from a game, it’s no longer new. You can no longer sell it as new. And yet GameStop gets away with doing that. So be cautious when shopping *new* merchandise at your local GameStop. Make sure it’s new, it’s what you are paying for.

  • On Downloadable Content

Posted on February 22nd, 2010 TorchOfFate No comments

Downloadable content was never something that I gave much thought to. When this first started to happen, I got excited that the game developers were giving me a reason to play games that I have completed and have been long since bored of. But as I re-played these games to get to the new content, I come to notice how they didn’t really add anything worthy to the game. It would have been nice to have the content available on my first play through of the game, but nothing worth the trip down memory lane. Recently, I’m starting to notice a trend that I find very disturbing as a consumer. Game developers are releasing games that have DLC available almost immediately. Now, I realize that there is a period of time from the point that a game is “finished” and it is actually on the shelf ready to be sold. This is due to the process of actually putting the game on a disk and packaging it all up. And this time is a good time to create these downloadable projects to have it available the day a game is released, but it tells me that the game developers weren’t happy with the game as it was, but released it anyways. And then, they charge me for the things they wish they had the time to put in a game.

Some developers do provide some of this new content free to the first owner of the copy of the game. And that’s ok if you’re one of those people who doesn’t buy pre-owned games, but if you do buy, you may find it would have been cheaper to just shell out the cash for the “complete” of the game instead of having to pay to get the missing parts. One example that comes to mind is Dragon Age: Origins. On the game case, it is advertised that the free content you get with the game is a new playable character worth 15$. The quest and character you get from the DLC, to me, was not worth 15$. The quest to get the character took me like an hour to do and the character was nothing special to me. Now, I don’t know how much the character would be to buy for a used copy of the game because I had the new version, but it’s just ridiculous in my opinion. If you are going to advertise a part of the game on the case of the game, include it on the disk.

  • Zombie Protection Insurance.

Posted on December 1st, 2009 TorchOfFate No comments

Okay. This is what I am going to do. I am going to charge my clients a onetime fee of $15,000 and $5,000 for each extra immediate family member. I will take each person’s initial investment and use it to buy buildings and vehicles. I will then fortify them to protect against zombies and raiders. Upon the start of the zombie apocalypse, my staff and I will venture out, find our clients and escort them back to our facilities until a time where it is safe for them the venture back into the world.

Now, those who pay for this service will not be taking it easy in my buildings. Their investment only keeps them inside the building. Gets them safe and off the streets. They still have to earn their keep. Everyone will be responsible for something that keeps the place running smoothly.

My staff will consist mainly of volunteers. Those who don’t mind going out into the wilds to get my clients back to safety. Preferably those with experience shooting things. But I don’t want a big group of people. The more people, the more could go wrong. So maybe like 6 people in a well fortified HMMWV with about 3 guns each. Maybe a turret on top just for worst case scenarios.

I need to start drawing up plans for buildings and vehicles.

  • Horror movies – Gore Vs Fear

Posted on November 19th, 2009 TorchOfFate No comments

I love horror movies. I like being scared. I love zombies. I am old enough to remember a time when movies were actually scary. Movies that made you skittish based on how it made you think. Now adays, gore sells. People don’t want to be scared, they want to see what happens when someone is pinned to the ground with a car and their head is pulled off by a large, angry person. They like watching the blood spray and the muscles tear. People just want to be grossed out. But this isn’t scary. It’s boring. It’s de-sensitizing. It’s unnecessary. This is why I hate the Saw movies. The Hostel movies. The newer zombie movies. Just makes me angry. I want to be scared again. Not just grossed out.

  • Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles – A RE Fan’s Review.

Posted on November 19th, 2009 TorchOfFate No comments

Okay. Let me state my history on the topic before I go off on my rant. I have been a diehard Resident Evil fan since the first game came out when I was in 7th grade. I like the zombie shooting. I like being scared. I love the suspense. Zombie Apocalypse is one of my favorite “end of the world” scenarios. It’s just great. As for RE First Person Shooters, I really enjoyed the Umbrella Chronicles too. But with this installment, as the game starts off, it’s frustrating. The camera is wild. This makes aiming at anything utterly pointless. As with Umbrella Chronicles, you get to collect things. There are so many secrets per level. But to get the secrets, you have to shoot out things like window and lights. I mean, really? Shooting out all the lights? The game is dark enough as it is. There are parts where I’m just shooting because I can’t see. Grrrr makes me angry. I do like how you can customize weapons. I love any games where I can customize things. The game kind of grows with me as I play. If you are a diehard RE fan, get the game. This games story does add a lot to the Resident Evil universe. If you want a shooter, go somewhere else.
